I'm gonna redesign my website
As a person with nil web development skills, I've decided to redesign my website. Since 2021.
I have lost count of the number of times I've decided as such. I have a couple of folders titled "redesign" already on my disk. Why haven't I yet updated my website theme from the templates you get on the web, despite having been unemployed for the bulk of this time? Because I suck at web dev.
But thats no reason to lose hope. I've had a hard time conceptualizing what kind of design would fit a website associated with me. Certainly not a bootstrap themed one.
Everytime I've given thought to this matter, I've settled at a mental image that can be vaguely described as brutalist neocity. Two years back I had attempted a colorful brutalist rewrite of my homepage, which was a spectacular failure. Nonetheless, I like the Geo/NeoCities aesthetic. Despite most websites there looking pre-historic as per whaever the latest standard is, my point remains that the cities have most character. Those websites don't shy away from expression.
Wasting time on the internet, I've stumbled across more websites that fit into the character-ful aesthetic. Each one of them is unique (and likely not responsive) but I swear, they shine.
I was using a "modern & flat" theme for this site until few weeks back, before shutting it down altogether because my potato server used to get slow. I've upgraded my VPS and now it should (hopefully) be able to keep this blog alive without freezing. Here's hoping none of my visitors decide to DDoS this site (be nice humans).
I tried to edit that "modern & flat" theme into a fancy one, but the (forced) minimalism got in my way. I realized moulding that theme into a fun version would be akin to undoing a bowl of noodles. So I swapped that theme out for Zap theme, which is Ghost's functionally minimal theme - with least possible stuff that would come into my way. This theme is way easier to customize. My next hop would be to buy some time in order to actually realize the kind of website I have imagined in my head, but thats a far fetched idea for now.
I tried to look at Write Freely and it looks very promising. However, I also like the better dashboard and drafting experinence of Ghost so I'm not migrating away.

Credit where its due; my interest in (yet another) redesign this season came from Cadence' website: https://cadence.moe
I think their website is cool and the internet SHOULD be cool!
