I tried prawn ramen
I haven't had proper ramen a lot. I've certainly had various kinds of noodles here and there and none of them have been really memorable. I tried ramen recently.
I expected it to be clear and more on the umami / sour side than spicy. Well, I need to mock my comprehension skills, because the menu clearly said "spicy prawn ramen". Why would I expect it to be not spicy? The other option on their menu was a coconut prawn ramen. Now, coconut isn't the kind of flavor that I normally like to have in gravies. So the spicy variant it was.
The moment I got it on my table, I could see very well in that deep red oil the spiciness of this food. It looked good. Any person really into spicy foods would be salivating at this. Not me.
The ramen turned out to be too spicy for my buds. I ended up eating the egg and prawns. I also ate some noodles, patiently drained out of the spicy soup. In all, it was not the sort of bowl I was expecting to spend on as my dinner.
On the positive side, the prawns were DELICIOUS! I've cooked prawns a handful of times, and they always come out mushy. Not that I hate mushy texture, but the prawns I ate here were crunchy form the outside, while being soft on the inside. I could feel the texture variation on my tongue and enjoyed eating it. And I of course, appreciate the cook who ensured they did justice to the spicy prefix to this dish.
A bowl of ramen was one of the many things I experienced last weekend. I could have my reservations about the bowl, but it was memorable for sure.
